System Administrator
We are currently searching for a System Administrator. The position will support the overall operational objectives of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) through the provision of support services and is located within the Office of Scientific Information, Office of the Scientific Director. This is a full-time opportunity supporting the NHLBI office located in Bethesda, MD. What You Will Do: Deploy, administer, patch and maintain all physical and virtual servers hosted by OSI. Manage NIH security requirements for OSI systems. Research and implement open-source solutions, both local and cloud-based. Participate in tool and application development (e.g. DIR repository webpages, scripting for automatic clinical data retrieval, generative AI tooling). Deploy, support and extend third-party software and applications for the DIR. Partner with the NHLBI/NIH IT organization to continually expand, share and improve support to our scientists. Experience with managing shared license services and/or managing a Configuration Management System. Must be a team player with the ability to mentor team members. What You Will Need: Bachelor's in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), or related technical field. A minimum of EIGHT (8) years of experience in system administration, software engineering, and/or project management. Experience in Linux Systems Administration. Develop and maintain software applications. Scripting expertise, in two or more of Ksh, bash, Perl, Python, R, PHP. Database administration experience in MySQL, MariaDB, or PostgreSQL. Basic understanding of network infrastructure, firewalls, remote access. Excellent analytical, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. What Would Be Nice To Have: Previous experience with NIH preferred. Experience in a research environment. The annual salary range for this position is $149,000.00-$248,000.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
