nDescription:
nThe Mechanical Engineer III will serve as a key resource for Plant Engineering, providing mechanical design support on project work to improve existing fiber optic cable manufacturing equipment. This role requires hands-on involvement in mechanical system design, integration, and troubleshooting, working collaboratively with a cross-functional team to drive continuous improvement in manufacturing processes.
nScope of Position:
n• Design tooling and/or mechanical assemblies utilizing Inventor or AutoCAD
n• Obtain quotes and order components
n• Revise equipment drawings
n• Develop experimental plans to validate designs
n• Assemble or oversee assembly of systems with opportunities for hands-on work
n• Debug and resolve issues during integration into production equipment
n• Collaborate with IT, process, and electrical engineers/technicians
n• Partner with operations to update documentation and support training

nRequirements:
n• BS in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience
n• 5+ years of relevant engineering experience
nRequired Qualifications:
n• Strong background in mechanical system design and integration
n• Proficiency in Inventor (or similar 3D CAD software), Vault, and AutoCAD
n• Knowledge of drafting standards including GD&T
n• Ability to coordinate with machine shops/vendors for part procurement
n• Hands-on troubleshooting experience with mechanical systems (pneumatics, flow control, water cooling, etc.)
n• Experience with manufacturing equipment repair and maintenance
n• Proven ability to manage mechanics/electricians for equipment assembly and installation
nDesired Qualifications:
n• Familiarity with plastic extrusion manufacturing
n• Experience with electrical troubleshooting (low/medium voltage, motion control, PLCs, temperature control)
n• Working knowledge of data analysis tools such as Excel, PI, and/or PowerBI
nSoft Skills:
n• Strong team player with excellent communication skills
n• Self-starter with results-oriented mindset
n• Collaborative across disciplines (IT, electrical, process engineering)
n• Safety-conscious with experience in manufacturing or construction environments
