Position Overview

The General Manager (GM) of the Black Rock Mountain Resort Event Center will lead the launch and ongoing operations of a premier multi-use venue in Park City, Utah. This newly constructed event center will host a diverse range of events including hockey, basketball, concerts, rodeos, and corporate functions. The GM will be responsible for building the operational foundation, driving revenue, and ensuring the venue becomes a vibrant and profitable destination. This role demands a visionary leader with proven experience in event center startups, sports and entertainment operations, and financial strategy. The GM will be the driving force behind filling the calendar, negotiating contracts, and maximizing profitability. Key Responsibilities

Startup & Launch

Lead all aspects of the event center’s pre-opening strategy, including staffing, systems, vendor selection, and operational readiness. Collaborate with ownership and contractors to finalize buildout and ensure the facility meets operational and guest experience standards. Event Programming & Revenue Generation

Aggressively pursue and negotiate contracts for a wide variety of events: sports (hockey, basketball), concerts, rodeos, expos, and private functions. Develop and execute a comprehensive calendar strategy to minimize dark days and maximize venue utilization. Build strong relationships with promoters, sports leagues, entertainment agencies, and community organizations. Leadership & Team Management

Oversee and mentor department heads in operations, sales & marketing, HR, and accounting. Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and excellence across all departments. Ensure staffing plans support both full-time and contract labor needs, including union labor coordination. Financial Oversight

Analyze financial statements, monitor KPIs, and implement tactics to improve profitability. Develop and manage operating budgets, capital expenditures, and revenue forecasts. Collaborate with accounting to ensure accurate reporting and compliance. Operations & Compliance

Ensure seamless execution of all events with a focus on guest services, safety, and operational efficiency. Maintain compliance with local, state and federal regulations, including union labor agreements. Oversee vendor relationships, facility maintenance, ice maintenance, and service contracts. Qualifications

Minimum 7 – 10 years of experience in venue or event center management, with at least 3 years in a GM or senior leadership role. Proven success in launching or revitalizing an event center or arena. Deep understanding of sports operations (hockey, basketball) and entertainment programming (concerts, rodeos, etc.). Strong negotiating skills and a track record of securing high-value events. Financial acumen with experience in P&L management, budgeting, and profitability strategies. Experience working with union labor and managing large contract workforces. Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Bachelor’s degree in business, Hospitality, Sports Management, or related field preferred.
