About The Role
PBI is seeking an experienced
Commercial Construction Estimator / Cost Estimator
with a proven background in
preconstruction and estimating large-scale commercial projects ($5M+).
This position requires technical expertise in
bidding, take-offs, cost analysis, subcontractor negotiations, and project budgeting.
The estimator will play a critical role in
accurate job costing, competitive proposal development, and client-facing bid presentations.
Key Responsibilities
Perform detailed quantity take-offs, material pricing, and labor estimates for commercial interior and exterior projects. Attend pre-bid meetings with owners, architects, engineers, project managers, subcontractors, and suppliers. Conduct site inspections to confirm conditions and verify scope. Review and interpret plans, drawings, specifications, and addenda. Prepare and submit accurate bids, proposals, and cost breakdowns within tight deadlines. Negotiate subcontractor and supplier pricing to ensure competitive terms. Develop and track production budgets and assist with contract preparation for awarded projects. Qualifications
Experience: 5–10 years of commercial construction estimating experience. Proven ability to estimate projects $5M+ with accuracy and detail. Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of construction means, methods, materials, and sequencing. Proficient with estimating software (Xactimate, Proest, On-Screen Takeoff, or similar). Advanced math and cost analysis skills. Other Skills: Excellent communication and negotiation abilities. Capable of working independently and managing multiple bids simultaneously. High attention to detail with strict accuracy standards. Education: High school diploma required. Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related field preferred.
Requirements
Ability to work in field conditions (roofs, crawl spaces, attics, storage areas). Willingness to work overtime or respond to short-notice requirements.
