Tool and Die Machinist

Works from a variety of prints, sketches, drawings, manuals, formulas, and verbal instructions to achieve specific requirements such as mold maintenance, fitting, assembling, and CNC machining. Maintains tolerances within stated levels and applies electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic standards to molds or other apparatus.

Responsibilities
  1. Troubleshoots basic electronic and/or hydraulic problems.
  2. Instructs and verifies work performed by others as directed.
  3. Provides safe tools and processes for production.
  4. Loads and unloads tools from transports.
  5. Trains employees as needed.
  6. Complies with all safe practices when working with large tools.
  7. Knows, understands, and complies with company quality policies and directives.
  8. Learns, supports, and practices continuous improvement initiatives to improve processes.
  9. Performs housekeeping functions before and after the job.
Essential Skills
  • Proficiency in using manual machines such as lathes and mills.
  • Experience in tooling or mold is a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Knowledge of lathe, mill, manual machining, tooling, die repair, and mold repair.
  • Familiarity with calipers, micrometers, grinders, surface grinding, stamping, die maintenance, tolerances, and troubleshooting.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Preferred Associate's Degree or equivalent within machining or tool and die.

Work Environment

The work environment includes 1st Shift from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm and 3rd Shift from 11:00 pm to 7:30 am. Employees work near moving mechanical parts and equipment, exposed to dirt, dust, high heat, humidity, vibrations, moving hazards, oil, detergents, and heights. The noise level is usually moderate.

This is a Contract position based out of West Des Moines, Iowa.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $32.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
