System Layout Mechanical Designer
We are seeking a System Layout Mechanical Designer with expertise in Body Shop tooling and proficiency in AutoCAD and FactoryCAD software. This role involves developing and modifying 2D/3D layouts, coordinating with engineering teams, and ensuring compliance with safety and customer specifications. A strong understanding of BIW systems, robot guarding standards, and mechanical design principles is essential. Responsibilities
Design and modify system layouts using AutoCAD and FactoryCAD. Develop kit sheets showing before and after configurations. Coordinate with technical leaders and engineers to resolve design issues. Ensure compliance with RIA, OSHA, NIOSH, and customer standards. Understand and apply PFMEA, MFMEA, and safety risk assessments. Design cable trays, headers, fencing, and operator interfaces. Translate CAD models into AutoCAD formats (SAT, IGES, etc.). Participate in team meetings and travel for field checks and issue resolution. Essential Skills
510 years of mechanical design experience in BIW systems. Proficiency in AutoCAD and FactoryCAD (2020 or newer). Knowledge of GM and Tesla standards. Understanding of robot movement, joint stops, and zone restrictions. Experience with Microsoft Office tools. Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with Siemens NX and CATIA. Pipe fitting and header design experience. Understanding of mechanical design sequences and controls documentation. Familiarity with ergonomic requirements and tooling stack-up methodology. Ability to travel domestically and internationally (520%). Work Environment
This role offers a hybrid work environment with four days in the office and one day working from home. The office is located at a design center, providing a structured yet flexible schedule. The position involves collaboration with experienced engineers and project stakeholders in a fast-paced, supportive environment, with opportunities for domestic and international travel to support project execution and field validation. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Southfield, Michigan. Pay and Benefits
