Aircraft Fuel Systems Mechanic

Inspects, maintains, modifies, troubleshoots, repairs, overhauls, and tests a variety of major aircraft fuel systems, their assemblies, and components. Prepares and operates fuel pressurization test stands to perform fuel tank and component integrity checks. Uses and maintains hand and power tools, test equipment and other powered/non-powered equipment required to accomplish duties. Accomplishes record keeping, manual and/or automated. Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work area. Requirements include U.S. citizenship, ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance, and possession of a valid driver's license. Temporary duty may be required. Access to information or areas classified up to secret is necessary. Must be qualified to enter the smallest fuel tank/cell that permits personnel entry on all MDS assigned. Must be required to obtain/maintain certification as a local Unit Rescue Team member upon assignment to the 97 MXS/MXMCF Fuels Flight, including maintaining respirator qualifications at all times. The work requires moderate to strenuous effort, including sitting, standing, lifting equipment weighing up to 60 pounds, pushing heavy jacks and test stands, stooping, bending, stretching, and working in cramped, tiring, and uncomfortable positions. Subject to high intensity and higher frequency sounds that impose a physical burden. Qualifications must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8200, Fluid Systems Maintenance Group. The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of an Aircraft Pneumatic Systems Mechanic without more than normal supervision. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: comprehensive knowledge of principles governing the behavior of fluids and basic electrical principles to repair and test various complex fuel system components, subsystems and systems; knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures; documentation procedures; and other applicable publications and forms; ability to apply standard formulas, shop mathematics, trade theories and industry practices in isolating the cause of malfunctions, to include fuel leaks; ability to use hand and power tools, fixtures and instruments; ability to inspect completed work of others; and ability to wear a respirator at all times, pass an annual job specific occupational physical and ability to enter/exit the smallest fuel tank access opening/door on the aircraft assigned.
