Salary is dependent upon the candidate's skills, experience, education and certifications.

Soft Tech Consulting, Inc. is seeking a Operational Technology (OT) Cybersecurity Engineer to support one of our government clients. The OT Cybersecurity Engineer will support the client's Office of Research Facilities (ORF) in securing and maintaining the integrity of Facility Operational Technology Systems (FOTS), including Building Automation Systems (BAS), Fire Alarm Systems, Hospital Automated Courier Systems (HACS), and Animal Facility Environmental Monitoring (AFEM). This role focuses on applying cybersecurity principles to industrial control systems (ICS) and OT environments, ensuring compliance with NIST SP 800-82r3 and SP 800-53 Rev 5.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement cybersecurity countermeasures for OT systems.
  • Conduct risk and vulnerability assessments and process hazard analyses (PHA).
  • Create and maintain Security Assurance Packages for Authority-to-Operate (ATO).
  • Ensure compliance with federal cybersecurity regulations and client's policies.
  • Design secure OT network architectures and assign security levels to network zones.
  • Monitor and secure control system communication protocols and media.
  • Oversee configuration management and recommend improvements.
  • Develop cybersecurity inspection and testing policies for OT systems.
  • Respond to cybersecurity incidents and perform system recovery in control system environments.
  • Support system upgrades and change management processes.
  • Collaborate with IT, engineering, and vendor teams to ensure secure integration of OT systems.
  • Review engineering plans and documentation for cybersecurity compliance.
  • Develop procurement specifications with embedded cybersecurity requirements.
  • Maintain OT asset inventories and support the development of continuity planning.
  • Train cybersecurity defense technicians on OT system processes.
  • Communicate implications of new technologies to stakeholders.
  • Participate in interdepartmental planning and business case development.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Cybersecurity, or related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in cybersecurity, industrial controls, or network engineering.
  • Experience in regulated environments such as healthcare or utilities preferred.
  • Preferred Certifications: CISSP, CISA, ITIL, CCNA, PMP, or equivalent certifications.
  • Knowledge of NIST SP 800-82r3, SP 800-53 Rev 5, and Risk Management Framework (RMF).
  • Familiarity with OT protocols (BACnet, Modbus, etc.) and control systems (e.g., Siemens, Johnson Controls).
  • Experience with anomaly detection tools, firewall rules, and access control lists.
  • Proficiency in system monitoring, backup/recovery, and antivirus solutions.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and manage vendor relationships.
  • Skilled in creating technical documentation and security assessment reports.
