Operational Technology (OT) Cybersecurity Engineer

This position supports a government client, focusing on securing Facility Operational Technology Systems (FOTS), including Building Automation Systems (BAS), Fire Alarm Systems, Hospital Automated Courier Systems (HACS), and Animal Facility Environmental Monitoring (AFEM). The role involves applying cybersecurity principles to industrial control systems (ICS) and OT environments, ensuring compliance with NIST standards.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement cybersecurity measures for OT systems.
  • Conduct risk assessments and process hazard analyses.
  • Create Security Assurance Packages for Authority-to-Operate (ATO).
  • Ensure compliance with federal cybersecurity regulations and policies.
  • Design secure OT network architectures and assign security levels.
  • Monitor and secure control system communication protocols.
  • Oversee configuration management and suggest improvements.
  • Develop cybersecurity inspection and testing policies.
  • Respond to cybersecurity incidents and assist in system recovery.
  • Support system upgrades and change management.
  • Collaborate with IT, engineering, and vendor teams for secure integration.
  • Review engineering plans for cybersecurity compliance.
  • Develop procurement specifications with cybersecurity requirements.
  • Maintain OT asset inventories and support continuity planning.
  • Train cybersecurity technicians on OT systems.
  • Communicate technology implications to stakeholders.
  • Participate in planning and business case development.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Cybersecurity, or related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in cybersecurity, industrial controls, or network engineering.
  • Experience in regulated environments preferred.
  • Certifications such as CISSP, CISA, ITIL, CCNA, PMP are preferred.
  • Knowledge of NIST standards and OT protocols (BACnet, Modbus, etc.).
  • Experience with anomaly detection tools, firewalls, and access controls.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Ability to work across teams and manage vendor relationships.

Additional Requirements: Must be a U.S. citizen, with a Public Trust / Top Secret clearance (SCI eligible) preferred. Hybrid work model: 3 days onsite in Bethesda, MD, and 2 days remote. Occasional travel may be required.
