Description
Invent the future with us.
Ampere is a semiconductor design company for a new era, leading the future of computing with an innovative approach to CPU design focused on high-performance, energy efficient, sustainable cloud computing.
By providing a new level of predictable performance, efficiency, and sustainability Ampere is working with leading cloud suppliers and a growing partner ecosystem to deliver cloud instances, servers and embedded/edge products that can handle the compute demands of today and tomorrow.
Join us at Ampere and work alongside a passionate and growing team — we’d love to have you apply!
About The Role
We are looking for a Core Architect to join a small but growing CPU group, advancing the art of high-performance circuit design. The role provides high levels of flexibility to define the next generation CPU Core for Ampere products. Ideal candidates will channel their creativity to contribute in cross-spectrum flow and methodology, working closely with circuit design micro architects.
What you’ll achieve:
- Joining the Aurora team means you will contribute to the creation of a groundbreaking AI compute product that supports sustainability and performance, designed to operate efficiently across a variety of data center infrastructures.
- You will be a critical technical contributor on our new AI product roadmap, helping to shape architecture and evaluate trade-offs.
- Work closely with the SW team and other HW architects and designers to define how target workloads will be mapped to domain-specific HW functions, including the host-device interface, data movement, and vector and matrix execution pipelines.
- Work with ARM’s architects to understand and implement new capabilities and features of the ARM ISA. Provide feedback to ARM based on Ampere technical and business needs, to drive the future direction of the ARM architecture.
- Balance features, performance, and costs to create a solution with high value and optimal use of development and physical resources.
- Facilitate design development efforts, performance estimation, and performance analysis through methodology and hands-on contributions.
- Drive the direction of the CPU performance model with senior team members and help develop and analyze microarchitecture studies for future products.
- Work with microarchitecture designers in performing circuit studies on current and future generation of CPUs.
- Drive performance correlation of models using post-silicon measurement data or pre-silicon simulation results.
- Collect silicon performance measurements and understanding how to vet data and filter anomalous results.
- Run and report out on experiments characterizing performance of existing silicon, both pre-production and shipping silicon.
- Create and maintain technical documents including architecture specifications, implementation guides, and user guides.
- Participate in the design of a server-class SoC including mesh interconnect, PCIe subsystem, or memory subsystem.
- BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science and 12 years of experience; or MS degree and 8 years of experience; or PhD degree and 5 years of experience
- Experience with performance modeling, e.g. in Python or C++
- High-level knowledge and understanding of AI algorithms, compute, and memory requirements
- Experience architecting and/or designing high-performance domain specific accelerators, especially for AI or GPU applications (preferred)
- Experience with implementing ARMv9, Nvidia and/or AMD GPU ISAs, especially vector and matrix instructions and pipeline-based micro-architectures (preferred)
- Must be self-driven, curious, organized and comfortable with ambiguity
- Ability to learn and adapt, one of the foundational principles of Ampere
- Great communication skills, comfortable with reaching out and asking questions, and brainstorming with peers – working at Ampere is very much a team sport!
At Ampere we believe in taking care of our employees and providing a competitive total rewards package that includes base pay, bonus (i.e., variable pay tied to internal company goals), long-term incentive, and comprehensive benefits. The full base pay range for this role is between $169,500 and $282,500.
Our benefits include health, wellness, and financial programs that support employees through every stage of life, with full benefits eligibility at 20 hours per week.
Benefit Highlights Include
- Premium medical insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, as well as income protection and a 401K retirement plan, so that you can feel secure in your health and financial future.
- Unlimited Flextime and 10+ paid holidays so that you can embrace a healthy work-life balance.
