Director / Vice President, Animal Welfare Policy
Location: Washington, DC
Type: Full-time Americans for the Common Good (ACG) fixes wasteful federal policy that hurts farmed animals and taxpayers. We work primarily with Republican offices and fiscal conservatives to deliver practical reforms that actually pass and meaningfully improve farmed animal welfare. What youll do Find and seize opportunities acrossappropriations, tax packages, and must pass bills. Draft surgical language (riders, report language, tax text) with credible paths to enactment. Own relationships with ~1015 key GOP offices and relevant committee staff. Build lean coalitions (fiscal conservatives, accountability, pro-innovation) when they accelerate passage. Ship, measure, iterate : test ideas with staff, refine from feedback, track progress to enactment. Advance pragmatic animal welfare improvements
when policy windows appear. What success looks like 90 days: Two viable vehicles in motion (e.g., targeted rider + tax extender); active dialogues with 810 GOP offices. 6 months: One tangible win (report language included, rider carried, or tax text placed) and a second teed up. Youll thrive here if you Read an approps bill andimmediately spot openingsothers miss. Care aboutenacting policythat saves taxpayer money and reduces animal cruelty. Self-direct, move fast, and keep operations light. Must-have qualifications Capitol Hill or federal lobbying experience. Existing working relationships with Republican offices(House/Senate; committees a plus). Understanding ofriders, report language, tax extenders, and timing the Hill. Values alignment with improving welfare for farmed animals. Nice to have Track record of driving legislative wins in Appropriations, Ways & Means/Finance, or Agriculture Comfort translating wins for boards/donors. Ability to leverage AI to amplify your work.
