Position Overview We are seeking a dedicated Teacher of the Visually Impaired to provide specialized instruction and support services to students with visual impairments through our remote learning platform. This role involves working with students across various grade levels, typically managing a caseload of 45-55 students while maintaining 36-37 hours per week of direct instruction and support services. Our virtual teaching model allows you to work with students from elementary through high school levels, providing individualized instruction in areas such as braille literacy, orientation and mobility concepts, assistive technology training, and compensatory academic skills. You'll collaborate with general education teachers, parents, and other specialists to ensure students receive comprehensive support for their unique learning needs. Core Responsibilities As a Teacher of the Visually Impaired, you will be responsible for conducting comprehensive assessments of students' functional vision and learning needs, developing and implementing individualized education programs (IEPs) that address specific visual impairment-related goals, and providing direct instruction in specialized skills including braille reading and writing, abacus use, and adaptive technology applications. Your role will include delivering lessons on daily living skills, teaching students to use assistive devices and software, coordinating with orientation and mobility specialists, and maintaining detailed progress monitoring records. You'll also facilitate virtual parent conferences, participate in IEP meetings, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure students receive appropriate accommodations and modifications. Required Qualifications Candidates must possess an active Teacher of the Visually Impaired licensure in Ohio, along with a Master's degree in Visual Impairment Education or related field. A minimum of 2 years of school-based experience working with students who have visual impairments is required, with demonstrated competency in braille instruction, assistive technology applications, and functional vision assessment techniques. Experience with virtual teaching platforms and remote service delivery is essential, as is proficiency with various assistive technologies including screen readers, magnification software, and braille displays. Strong communication skills for working with families and educational teams in virtual environments are crucial for success in this position.
