About the role, as a Systems Engineering Lead (Lead Ops Engineer), you’ll be critical in delivering shared solutions for infrastructure operations across our products. Working collaboratively, you’ll lead your team to build and improve our current and future hosting capabilities. You will be consistently looking at ways to automate, optimize, increase availability, and budget cloud services. About the team, this diverse team of DevOps/Cloud/Systems Engineers is entrusted with driving performance for one of our Critical suite of products, ClinicalKey. ClinicalKey is a powerful clinical search and reference platform developed by Elsevier to support healthcare professionals, students, and researchers by delivering fast, evidence-based, and trusted medical content. Requirements Advanced problem-solving experience involving leading teams in identifying, researching, and coordinating resources to troubleshoot and diagnose complex project issues; success in translating findings into solutions, with good fault diagnostic skills and prioritization abilities. Proficiency in AWS Architecture, with relevant accreditation or experience, and ability to develop and review technical standards ensuring adherence to enterprise and architectural standards. Experience facilitating technical and planning meetings, seeking diverse ideas to create better solutions, and championing innovation within teams and across the organization. Experience in authoring CI/CD pipelines, automation for infrastructure, deployment, and monitoring, using tools like Jenkins for rapid, high-quality software releases. Expertise in containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes), managing Linux servers, and performing large-scale administration. Experience deploying and integrating monitoring, backup/restore, and large-scale reporting tools (e.g., New Relic, ELK), with operational support experience on major cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure). Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation), scripting languages (Python, Bash, PowerShell), and configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef) for multi-region cloud environments. Proven record of implementing DevOps and SRE practices, demonstrating how these support and improve product development and operations. Strong scripting skills and experience working within agile teams to build tooling and integrations. Responsibilities Mentoring DevOps & Cloud team members, leading sessions, and fostering an efficient, innovative, and inclusive environment. Contributing to shared modules and self-service tools to enable teams to operate effectively across the SDLC. Providing day-to-day leadership, coaching, and promoting a culture of learning and collaboration. Ensuring operational frameworks, policies, and best practices are followed to improve system reliability and performance. Leading automation efforts to enhance deployment frequency, security, and service levels, utilizing scripting, IaC, and cloud-native tools. Driving modernization of technology stacks, implementing multi-region AWS infrastructure, and supporting platform innovations. Monitoring system health, troubleshooting issues, and maintaining effective communication during incidents, fostering a blameless culture.
