About the Role

The Company is seeking a General Counsel to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the management and oversight of a wide range of legal matters that significantly impact the institution's operations and mission. This includes but is not limited to personnel issues, student affairs, real estate, contract development and review, strategic communications, diversity and inclusion initiatives, and compliance with various legal and regulatory requirements. The General Counsel will be a key strategist, providing legal advice, and support to the College's administrators, and ensuring that the institution's policies and practices align with legal standards and the values of the College.

Applicants for the General Counsel position at the company must have a Juris Doctorate, be licensed to practice law in Maryland, and have a minimum of 10 years' legal experience, with at least 3 years in a higher education setting. The role requires a candidate with a strong background in employment discrimination, breach of contract, and tort matters, as well as excellent problem-solving, communication, and conflict resolution skills. The ideal candidate will be a champion for the company's values, particularly in the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and will have the ability to work effectively with a diverse population. Experience in employment and labor law, and a proven track record of managerial and supervisory experience, are preferred.
