Position Title:
Executive Director, Center for Career Design and Development School/Division:
Student Affairs Full Time/Part Time:
Full-Time Description: Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Student Enrollment, Engagement, and Success ( SEES ), the Executive Director of the Center for Career Design and Development provides innovative and strategic leadership, program development, and administration of a comprehensive career center serving all undergraduate and graduate students (with the exception of graduate students enrolled in the Schools of Business, Law, and Medicine). The Executive Director will be an integral member of the leadership team that is committed to supporting student success and actively advancing innovative and best practices with regards to increasing student engagement, enhancing career preparation, assessing learning outcomes, and cultivating among students the self-confidence, competencies, and connections with others that will lead to personally and professionally satisfying futures upon graduation. The Executive Director will lead a team of seven full time and three part-time staff members engaged in career counseling/coaching, educational programming, employer outreach, and substantive liaison partnerships within the university.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Provides strategic leadership and vision for the Career Services department, aligning its mission and objectives with the broader goals of the university. Oversees the development and implementation of innovative career development programs, workshops, and resources that cater to the diverse needs of Hofstra's student and alumni populations. Builds and sustains strong internal and external relationships with academic colleges to align career initiatives with students' academic journeys, ensuring integration of career readiness throughout the curriculum. Collaborates with academic departments, student organizations, and other campus partners to foster a culture of career readiness and professional development. Works closely with external employers to support the student career journey from internships through to full-time career placement, creating pipelines that connect academic learning with workforce needs. Utilizes data analytics and assessment tools to make informed decisions, evaluate program effectiveness, assess career outcomes, and produce regular reporting for internal and external stakeholders. Cultivates and maintains strong relationships with employers, industry partners, and alumni to expand internship, co-op, and job opportunities for Hofstra students and graduates. Manages and develops a talented team of career services professionals, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment. Represents the Career Services department on various university committees and serves as a key advocate for student career development initiatives. Stays abreast of industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in the field of career services to ensure Hofstra's programs remain cutting-edge and responsive to the evolving needs of the job market. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications: Master's degree required. Minimum seven years of progressively responsible experience focused on promoting career development and facilitating relationships to support and sustain the professional preparation and success of others, preferably within a higher education institution. Demonstrated leadership and supervisory capabilities. Ability to thrive in a learning environment that welcomes and celebrates human diversity and differences, and brings a goal-oriented, data-driven approach to generating measurable outcomes. Ability to collaborate with internal and external constituents. Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated commitment to customer service preferred. Ability to be forward-looking, embracing best practices and creating next practices. Ability to identify and implement solutions to address evolving employment and educational trends impacting employers, students, and alumni. Possess strategic change management skills coupled with strong fiscal planning and budget management abilities. Utilization and competence of current technologies and social media. Strong communication, marketing, and public relations skills, and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
