Reporting to the Associate Vice President, Student Health, Wellness & Campus Support Services within the Division of SEES, the Executive Director provides innovative and strategic leadership, program development, and administration of a comprehensive career center serving all undergraduate and graduate students (excluding graduate students in the Schools of Business, Law, and Medicine). The Executive Director will be an integral member of the leadership team, advancing student engagement, career preparation, internships and experiential learning, and academic-to-career connections through collaboration with academic units and faculty. The role also involves cultivating partnerships with the Office of Alumni Relations to engage alumni in mentoring, networking, and career initiatives. The Executive Director will lead a team of seven full-time and one part-time staff engaged in career counseling/coaching, programming, employer outreach, internship coordination, and liaison partnerships within the university. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Provides strategic leadership and vision for the Career Services department, aligning its mission with university goals. Oversees development and implementation of innovative career development programs, workshops, and resources for Hofstra’s students and alumni. Builds and sustains internal and external relationships with academic colleges to align career initiatives with students’ academic journeys, integrating career readiness throughout the curriculum. Collaborates with academic departments, student organizations, and campus partners to foster a culture of career readiness and professional development. Works with external employers to support the student career journey from internships to full-time placement, creating pipelines linking academic learning with workforce needs. Uses data analytics and dashboards to evaluate program effectiveness, assess career outcomes, and communicate placement success rates to schools and stakeholders. Cultivates relationships with employers, industry partners, and alumni to expand internship, co-op, and job opportunities for Hofstra students and graduates. Manages and develops a team of career services professionals, fostering collaboration and a supportive work environment. Represent the Career Services department on university committees and advocate for student career development initiatives. Stays current with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies to keep Hofstra’s programs cutting-edge and responsive to job market needs. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications
Minimum five to seven years of progressively responsible experience related to promoting career development and fostering professional relationships, preferably in higher education. Demonstrated leadership and supervisory capabilities. Ability to thrive in a diverse, learning-focused environment with a data-driven approach to outcomes. Ability to collaborate with internal and external constituents. Preferred Qualifications
Commitment to customer service. Forward-looking mindset and ability to embrace best practices and create next practices. Salary/Salary Range: $120,000 - $160,000 Additional Information
Hofstra provides the above salary as a good faith estimate of the starting pay range, considering factors such as scope and responsibilities, candidate experience, and education. The university offers a collegial and inclusive culture, a benefits program including generous paid time off, holidays, tuition remission for employees and eligible dependents, and a retirement plan with University contributions. Salary ranges may be in accordance with a Collective Bargaining Agreement where applicable.
