POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general direction of the Seniors Kitchen Supervisor, the Senior Assistant performs various duties to provide quality service to the Bay Mills Seniors and guests of the Armella Parker Senior Center in a timely manner. This position supports the department's mission to promote the health and well-being of tribal elders.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Must assist as needed in all meal preparation and clean up the cooking area.
2. Will complete all grocery shopping on a weekly basis.
3. Shall assist with inventory of all kitchen supplies.
4. Will perform any other duties related to food preparation\food service and nutritional activities. This will include the ongoing cleanliness of the facility, specifically the kitchen/food storage areas.
5. Delivery of meals in a safe and timely manner to assigned homes, community facilities, and/or distribution points in accordance with established schedules and delivery routes.
o Maintain accurate delivery logs, mileage reports, and meal count records as required by program procedures.
o Load, transport, and unload meals and program supplies with care to prevent damage.
o Monitor vehicle condition, report maintenance issues promptly, and ensure the vehicle remains clean and in safe operating condition.
o Report delays, delivery issues, or incidents to the supervisor immediately.
o Interact with recipients, community members, and staff with courtesy and respect, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
6. Must assist tribal seniors with various household tasks to include lawnmowing, snow removal, light cleaning, and shopping.
7. Must adhere to program confidentiality policies.
8. Adhere to all requirements as mandated by the USDA/Administration on Aging.
9. The senior assistant is expected to work as a team member with all staff to ensure the success of the overall program.
10. Must adhere to ServSafe guidelines which involves following all food safety standards, including handling, storage, and temperature control requirements, to preserve meal quality.
11. Must attend all mandatory training offered by the Human Resources Department and/or Department Supervisor.
12. Perform other related duties as assigned to meet program and organizational goals.
Requirements
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and stand. Occasionally, the employee is required to walk, bend, lift, and/or move up to 50 pounds. Occasionally, the employee must crouch, kneel, lift, push or pull up to 75 pounds. The position requires working under both indoor and outdoor weather conditions.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
1. High school diploma or GED required.
2. Must have a valid driver's license and insurable by Bay Mills Indian Community.
3. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in varying weather conditions.
4. Knowledge of basic vehicle safety and defensive driving practices.
5. Must have demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and good communication skills.
6. Knowledge of tribal community geography is preferred.
7. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact respectfully with elders, youth, and community members.
8. Ability to follow schedules, directions, and established safety procedures.
