An exciting opportunity is available for a skilled Pre-Engineered Metal Building (PEMB) Engineer with experience in large clear-span structures such as airplane hangars. This role is perfect for someone who thrives on technically complex projects, enjoys problem-solving, and wants to play a key role in the design and delivery of critical aviation facilities.
You'll be responsible for ensuring the structural integrity, cost efficiency, and constructability of PEMB systems, with a focus on aviation-specific requirements like wide-span frames, rolling/folding door systems, and high-load roof assemblies.
What You'll Do
- Design & Engineering
- Lead the structural design of PEMBs for hangars and large-span projects.
- Perform detailed load analyses (wind, snow, seismic, collateral, and aviation-specific).
- Ensure designs meet all relevant codes and standards (AISC, MBMA, IBC, FAA-related).
- Project Collaboration
- Work closely with internal teams, contractors, and fabricators to deliver efficient solutions.
- Review and approve shop/erection drawings and structural calculations.
- Provide technical support to project managers for schedules, budgets, and submittals.
- Quality & Compliance
- Conduct peer reviews and value engineering studies to optimize materials and costs.
- Integrate hangar doors, fire suppression, and ventilation systems with PEMB frames.
- Support construction with RFIs and occasional field inspections.
- Leadership & Mentorship
- Share expertise with junior engineers on PEMB design methods and software tools.
- Stay up to date on industry trends, sustainability practices, and new technologies.
- Education : Bachelor's or Master's in Civil or Structural Engineering. (PE preferred, SE a plus.)
- Experience :
- 5+ years of structural engineering, with at least 3 years in PEMB design.
- Direct experience with large clear-span structures, ideally hangars or similar facilities.
- Technical Skills :
- Strong background in steel design, connections, and foundations.
- Proficiency in analysis/design software (STAAD, RISA, SAP2000, RAM, etc.).
- Familiarity with PEMB platforms like MBS, Tekla, or equivalent.
- Soft Skills : Detail-oriented, collaborative, effective communicator, problem-solver.
- Prior experience with aviation facilities (hangar doors, NFPA 409 fire codes, specialized MEP).
- Exposure to major PEMB manufacturers' systems.
- Experience in design-build project delivery.
