Data Engineers
who are eager to integrate data with advancing technologies. As a Principal Data Engineer at Capital One, you will spearhead significant transformations within our organization. What You Will Do: Engage with Agile teams to design, develop, test, and implement technical solutions using a diverse set of development tools and technologies.
Collaborate with fellow developers who have a wealth of experience in machine learning, distributed microservices, and comprehensive systems.
Utilize programming languages such as Java, Scala, Python, and various RDBMS and NoSQL databases, alongside cloud-based data warehousing services such as Redshift and Snowflake.
Stay ahead of tech trends, explore new technologies, and contribute to both internal and external tech communities while mentoring fellow engineers.
Work closely with digital product managers to deliver powerful cloud-based solutions that enhance experiences for millions of Americans seeking financial empowerment.
Conduct unit testing and perform code reviews to ensure your work is well-designed, written cleanly, and optimized for performance.
Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree.
At least 4 years of experience in application development (Internship experience does not count).
At least 2 years of experience with big data technologies.
At least 1 year of cloud computing experience (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud).
Preferred Qualifications: 7+ years of application development experience, including proficiency in Python, SQL, Scala, or Java.
4+ years of experience with a public cloud solution (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud).
4+ years of experience with distributed data/computing tools (MapReduce, Hadoop, Hive, EMR, Kafka, Spark, etc.).
4+ years of experience creating Real-Time data and streaming applications.
4+ years of experience with NoSQL implementations (Mongo, Cassandra).
4+ years of experience with data warehousing (Redshift or Snowflake).
4+ years of experience with UNIX/Linux, including basic commands and Shell Scripting.
2+ years of experience with Agile engineering practices.

The salary range for this role is between $193,400 and $220,700 for a Lead Data Engineer position in McLean, VA. Candidates hired in different locations will receive salaries based on their specific location, and actual compensation will be detailed in the offer letter. This role is also eligible for performance-based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonuses and/or long-term incentives.
