Job Description - BUSINESS OFFICER II (T229477) BUSINESS OFFICER II - ( T229477 ) Description The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking a BUSINESS OFFICER II to serve in the capacity of business manager, relieves department head/large division director or dean of administrative detail with responsibility for financial management/budget, personnel policy administration, space and facilities planning, grants administration, policy interpretation and enforcement. Conducts special projects, analyzes data and compiles reports regarding budgets, personnel and space utilization. Interacts with University administrative units and assures the integrity of department/division/school administrative and financial operations. Manages staff and handles strategic planning. Serves as financial/budget/grants management officer for assigned unit. May interact with administrators and assist with interdepartmental collaborations. May handle compliance related issues. The ideal candidate must be very organized, proactive and flexible in order to adapt to a changing academic and clinical environment. The candidate must have good communication, interpersonal and analytical skills. Supervisory and managerial skills are essential in the position as well. This position will serve as the primary business manager for the department, divisions, and clinics, handling financial management, budget development and oversight, personnel policy administration, space and facilities planning, and grants administration. Also will manage the administrative, budgeting, and fiscal activities for a prominent National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant, the National Dental Practice-Based Research Network (NDPBRN). This involves working with a collaborative network across six regions: Kaiser Foundation (Western Region), HealthPartners Institute (Midwest Region), University of Florida (South Atlantic Region), University of Texas-San Antonio (Southwest Region), University of Rochester (Northeast Region), University of Illinois-Chicago (Specialty Dentistry Node). This position would also manage other multiple grants and contracts within the department and divisions, including Industry grants and HRSA awards. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Business or a related field and five (5) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. The ideal candidate must have a solid foundation in human resources and fiscal affairs in an academic setting is preferred. Must be able to multitask, maintain confidentiality and work at a fast pace in a department with multiple divisions and faculty, staff, residents, and students. Must be knowledgeable and proficient in Microsoft Office. Institutional knowledge of UAB Oracle HR and Finance, PeopleAmin, Kronos, TALEO, IRAP, Axiom, and familiar with clinical reports. Candidates with some knowledge of NIH application process would be helpful, but not preferred. Primary Location
