Emergency Department/ ER/ ED RN Job Description: ·
Patient Triage: Quickly evaluating incoming patients to determine the severity of their condition and prioritize care accordingly. ·
Initial Assessment: Performing a thorough physical examination, taking vital signs, and collecting necessary medical history. ·
Emergency Procedures: Administering medications, starting IVs, performing advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) procedures if needed. ·
Wound Care: Cleaning and dressing wounds, managing bleeding. ·
Monitoring Patient Status: Continuously observing patients for changes in condition, reporting critical findings to physicians promptly. ·
Communication and Collaboration: Effectively communicating with patients, families, physicians, other healthcare team members, and ancillary staff. ·
Documentation: Accurately documenting patient assessments, interventions, and progress notes in the electronic medical record. ·
Crisis Management: Maintaining composure and effectively managing stressful situations, including trauma cases and critical emergencies. Required skills for an ER nurse: ·
Clinical Expertise: Strong understanding of emergency medicine, critical care concepts, and advanced nursing skills ·
Critical Thinking: Ability to rapidly assess patient conditions, make quick decisions, and prioritize interventions ·
Time Management: Efficiently managing multiple patients in a fast-paced environment ·
Stress Tolerance: Ability to work effectively under pressure and remain calm in crisis situations ·
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with patients, families, and healthcare team members ·
Teamwork: Collaborate effectively with other healthcare professionals to provide optimal patient care Education and Certification: Registered Nurse (RN) License:
Required to practice as an ER nurse Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN):
Preferred by many hospitals, although an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) may be accepted depending on the facility Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN):
Optional certification that demonstrates advanced knowledge and expertise in emergency nursing OTHER CERTIFICATIONS MAY BE REQUIRED
