RJR Executive Search has been retained to manage the candidate selection process for a talented Chief Financial Officer. Our client is a P&C Insurance carrier located in Florida writing personal and commercial insurance across the country. We are seeking a proactive and highly motivated leader for their organization.

Summary:

The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for overseeing all financial functions including accounting, reserving, reinsurance, budgeting, regulatory reporting, investment management, and capital planning. As a key member of the executive team, the CFO will provide strategic insight to support growth, profitability, and compliance in a dynamic and regulated environment.

Areas of Responsibility:

  • Develops and executes the company's financial strategy in alignment with corporate goals.
  • Leads financial forecasting, planning, and analysis to support decision-making.
  • Evaluate and manage financial risk, solvency, and capital adequacy.
  • Ensure accurate and timely preparation of GAAP and statutory financial statements.
  • Oversee state and federal insurance regulatory filings (e.g., NAIC, DOI).
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory standards including risk-based capital requirements.
  • Manage reinsurance programs and relationships to mitigate risk and optimize capital.
  • Oversee loss ratio and combined ratio analysis to ensure long-term profitability.
  • Oversee investment portfolio in accordance with insurance regulations and risk appetite.
  • Monitor cash flow, liquidity, and capital needs.
  • Liaise with investment advisors, banks, and rating agencies as needed.
  • Supervise all accounting functions, including accounts payable, receivable, payroll, and general ledger.
  • Implement and maintain internal controls and audit readiness.
  • Partner with IT to ensure financial systems are efficient and secure.
  • Lead and develop the finance and accounting team.
  • Serve as a key advisor to the CEO and Board of Directors.
  • Collaborate with underwriting, claims, actuarial, and legal departments to align financial goals with business operations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance, or related field with major course work in Finance, Insurance, Risk Management and /or Business Administration.
  • An MBA or CPA is preferred.
  • A minimum of 10+ years of progressively responsible financial leadership experience in the property and casualty insurance industry required.
  • Prior experience as a CFO or senior financial executive in P&C insurance company required.
  • Insurance designation such as CPCU is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of insurance accounting (statutory and GAAP), reserving, and reinsurance.
  • Deep understanding of financial regulations, NAIC guidelines, and risk management.
  • Strategic thinker with operational insight and hands-on leadership style.
  • Excellentcommunication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Results-oriented and adaptable with a strategic mentality.
  • Skilled at bringing a team together to move them in one direction.
  • Transformative leader with a passion for financial innovation and investment acumen.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional organizational, time management, and budgeting skills with the ability to plan and prioritize effectively to ensure initiatives are implemented on schedule and within budget.
  • Solid working proficiencies of business operations, procedures, and priorities with a strong ability to support change and impart value within an organization.
  • Proficient in MSO/365 applications such as Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Possess a current drivers license and has the ability to travel.
