Associate Scientist / Scientist I, Protein Sciences, Biophysical Assays, SPR

August 2025

Department: Technology

Position Summary:

At TCG Labs-Soleil, we’re building a team of scientists who are excited to push the boundaries of therapeutic discovery. We are seeking a motivatedAssociate Scientist/Scientist I to join our Protein Sciences team and play a key role in advancing new therapeutics.

This is a hands-on bench role for someone who enjoys designing and running assays, collaborating closely with teammates, and contributing directly to a diverse pipeline of programs. You’ll bring experience in biophysical methods – particularly surface plasmon resonance (SPR) and biolayer interferometry (BLI) – to help characterize antibodies and protein interactions that are critical to moving our pipeline forward.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-moving startup environment – where priorities shift quickly, challenges are part of the process, and every experiment counts. We’re looking for a scientist who is adaptable, collaborative, and energized by the opportunity to make an impact on the future of therapeutic development.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, execute, and analyze high- to medium-throughput biosensor-based molecular interaction assays (SPR, BLI), including antibody screening, epitope binning, and binding kinetics.
  • Develop and optimize biosensor assay methods to support the full biologics drug discovery process from discovery, hit to lead, and lead optimization to development candidate (monoclonal antibodies, bispecifics, fusion proteins, etc.).
  • Collaborate across teams to generate high-quality data that informs program decisions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve assay-related technical challenges.
  • Clearly document experiments and results, communicate findings in a timely manner, and present results in team and departmental meetings.
  • Stay hands-on in the lab, adapting quickly to changing project needs.

Qualifications:

  • M.S. in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or related field with5+ years of relevant experience, or B.S. with10+ years. Industry experience in pharma, biotech, or startup environments is required; prior startup or biotech experience is strongly preferred.
  • Strong, hands-on experience with SPR and BLI (Carterra, Biacore, Gator, Octet, or other biosensor platforms), with a solid understanding of binding experiments and data analysis/fitting tools.
  • Proven experience with antibody screening, epitope binning, and binding kinetics assays.
  • Demonstrated ability totroubleshoot and solve technical challenges, adapting quickly in a dynamic research environment.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability tomanage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously without compromising quality.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with meticulous attention to experimental documentation.
  • Collaborative, flexible, and motivated by thefast-paced, changing environment of a startup.
  • Experience with small molecule-protein interaction analysis is aplus.
  • Experience with automation and liquid handling systems is aplus.

Company Overview

TCG Labs-Soleil, established in partnership with The Column Group , a science-focused venture capital firm, is pioneering a novel ‘venture capital-biotech’ model. Our core mission is to efficiently translate scientific insights into therapeutic solutions for patients facing serious diseases. This model supports scientific entrepreneurs from the initial idea to clinical proof of concept (PoC) by combining a dedicated fund (TCG Labs) with our independent, evergreen R&D center led by a top-tier scientific team (Soleil). Together, we create an integrated ecosystem that fosters the development of single-asset portfolio companies, strategically poised for transacting after clinical PoC.
