The unit has 26 beds and a staff of 112 individuals. The day shift typically includes 1 team leader, 14 nurses, 2-3 surgical techs, and 2 unit clerks. Patient ratios are 1:1 for high-risk labor and c-sections, 1:2 for antepartum and patients on magnesium, and 1:3 for postpartum patients without babies. Typical procedures include C-sections, inductions, artificial rupture of membranes, intrauterine pressure catheter placements, and Doppler fetal monitoring. The unit utilizes Alaris pumps, PCA pumps, Monica Novii telemetry, and CPN monitors. The electronic medical record system in use is CPN Gold and Meditech. Candidates should be hardworking and flexible. The unit offers a self-scheduling system that enhances staff satisfaction. Nursing teamwork is emphasized, with staff supporting each other to meet unit needs. Strong leadership is present to support nursing staff and can provide floor assistance when necessary. The team includes many experienced nurses, with tenures ranging from 20 to 40 years. An OB Hospitalist program has recently been implemented to provide additional support.
