The unit has a total of 36 beds with patient ratios of 1:4 / 1:5. There is a secretary present every day, along with PRN techs available. Equipment includes PD Cyclers and basic equipment such as Welch Allyn VS carts, Hoyer lifts, Broda chairs, and Alaris IV pumps. Documentation is done using Meditech. Scheduling requires 4 weekend shifts in a 4-week block. Floating policy allows for staff to float over core staff when necessary. Patient experience expectations include bedside shift report and safety checks every 1 to 2 hours, with a focus on communication and responsiveness. The unit acts as an overflow non-ICU unit during community COVID surges. Candidates must be able to perform basic patient assessments and care for wounds, tracheostomies, ostomies, drains, chest tubes, strokes, and seizures. The patient population may require dialysis or PCA pumps, with only heparin as the drip medication. Post-operative procedures on the unit include amputations, ostomy care, drains, chest tubes, oral surgeries, and wound vacs. Dress code consists of scrubs in navy, blue, white, black, gray, and ceil blue. The unit has guidelines for HAI prevention and medication scanning, including controlled substances. Great teamwork is emphasized, and the group is eager to enhance patient outcomes. Supportive charges and experienced leadership ensure a smooth transition for new staff.
