Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Lead the complete design process of high-voltage substations, including physical layout, protection and control systems, grounding, and conduit design. Develop and review engineering drawings such as single-line diagrams, wiring schematics, equipment layouts, and bill of materials. Coordinate with clients, project managers, and other engineering disciplines to ensure timely and accurate project deliverables. Conduct technical reviews and provide QA/QC for engineering documents. Ensure designs comply with all applicable codes, standards (IEEE, NESC, NEC), and client specifications. Prepare engineering reports, cost estimates, and technical studies. Lead the design and engineering of high-voltage substation projects (69kV to 500kV), overseeing multidisciplinary teams and ensuring project success in compliance with industry standards and California regulations. Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance within the team. Assist with business development and proposal efforts by providing technical expertise and estimating design hours. Qualifications & Skills:
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field. Minimum of 10 years of experience in substation design engineering (69kV to 500kV). Current California Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required. Extensive knowledge of substation equipment (transformers, circuit breakers, disconnect switches, control panels, etc.). Proficient in industry-standard design software (AutoCAD, MicroStation, ETAP, or similar). Strong understanding of applicable codes and standards (NESC, NEC, IEEE, ANSI). Additional Qualifications:
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field. Experience working with California utilities (e.g., PG&E, SCE, SDG&E). Experience with substation automation and SCADA integration.
