Principal Data Scientist Retail Intelligence (Tech Lead)

Walmart's Retail Intelligence team is seeking a Principal Data Scientist (Tech Lead) to drive innovation and excellence in model building for store operations. This role is ideal for a hands-on leader with deep retail experience, strong programming skills, and a passion for mentoring data scientists in a fast-paced, agile environment. Key responsibilities include: Leading and mentoring a team of individual contributors in developing critical models for store operations, with a focus on Agentic AI and mathematical modeling. Guiding sprint teams in building the architecture for AI agents supporting retail store operations. Ensuring daily work is completed within an accountable framework and updates are provided in the correct format. Driving collaboration among data scientists to define objectives, develop strategies, and execute on project gameplans. Providing ongoing technical support and guidance to other data scientists. Developing, implementing, and optimizing class algorithms for store operations use cases. Delivering actionable insights, recommendations, and data-driven actions to stakeholders. Minimum qualifications: Master's degree in computer science, Data Science, Mathematics, or a related field. Minimum 5 years of experience in Data Science, with at least 2 years as a Tech Lead, preferably in a retail environment. Strong programming skills in SQL and Python. Proven experience with mathematical modeling and Agentic AI. Demonstrated ability to lead teams in an agile, sprint-based format. Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Preferred qualifications: Experience building AI/ML solutions for retail operations. Familiarity with technical agent frameworks and architecture. Strong problem-solving skills and a results-driven mindset. Experience in Retail Store Operations. Benefits are subject to change and may be subject to a specific plan or program terms. The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00-$220,000.00.
