Saint Mary's Hospital, Lab Waterbury, CT PER DIEM

You will be responsible for accurately fixing, embedding, cutting, and staining tissue for Pathologist interpretation and diagnosis. Provides quality technical and customer service to all customers.

What you will do: Assist the Pathologist in gross surgical specimen examination. Accurately label and embed surgical and autopsy cases. Cut and mount surgical and autopsy cases. Stain specimens with H & E and special stains as required. Prepare and stain specimens for immunohistochemical studies. Receive and prepare specimens to be sent to a reference laboratory. Fill all gross specimens, paraffin blocks, and slides derived from surgical and autopsy specimens. Utilize existing QC/QA programs as required by regulatory agencies. Assist in inspections by all regulatory agencies. Enter diagnostic results into the laboratory computer. Maintain and troubleshoot all instruments in the section. Position Hours: Per Diem - Must be available to work full-day shifts for on-site training and EPIC Training. Once training is complete, can work weekends and/or evenings. Minimum Requirements: Associate's Degree with courses in biological sciences; 2 years' histology-related experience or formal training in all phases of histology, except electron microscopy. Preferred. HT Certification in Histology by an accrediting agency. Proficient in the use and limitations of all equipment in anatomical pathology.
