Job Title: Working Foreman Blacktop Location: DeLand, FL Employment Type: Full-Time Reports To: Owner

Job Summary: Blacktop is seeking an experienced and motivated Working Foreman to lead and actively participate in asphalt paving and maintenance projects in DeLand, FL. The Working Foreman will oversee a crew of workers, ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and to Blacktops high standards, while also performing hands-on tasks related to asphalt paving, grading, and related activities. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise in asphalt operations, and a commitment to maintaining a safe and efficient work environment, reporting directly to the Owner.

Key Responsibilities: Crew Leadership & Supervision:
Lead, direct, and supervise a crew of asphalt workers, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and to Blacktops specifications. Assign daily tasks, monitor performance, and provide guidance to crew members to maintain productivity and quality. Train and mentor team members on proper techniques, safety protocols, and equipment operation.

Hands-On Work: Actively participate in asphalt paving, grading, sealing, and repair tasks, including operating equipment such as rollers, pavers, and skid steers as needed. Perform tasks like raking, shoveling, and compacting asphalt to ensure high-quality results. Assist in setting grades, laying out projects, and ensuring proper alignment and surface quality.

Project Execution & Coordination:
Read and interpret project plans, blueprints, and specifications to ensure work meets client requirements. Coordinate with the Owner, equipment operators, and other team members to maintain project schedules and budgets. Monitor material usage and ensure proper application of asphalt, sealants, and other materials.

Safety & Compliance:
Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols, including OSHA regulations and Blacktops safety policies. Conduct daily safety briefings and ensure all crew members use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Inspect work sites for hazards and implement corrective actions to maintain a safe work environment.

Equipment & Maintenance:
Oversee the proper use, care, and maintenance of tools, machinery, and equipment, reporting issues to the Owner. Ensure equipment is cleaned and maintained daily to prolong operational life and prevent downtime. Quality Control: Inspect completed work to ensure it meets Blacktops standards, client expectations, and industry best practices. Address any deficiencies or rework needs promptly to maintain project quality and client satisfaction.

Communication & Reporting:
Communicate effectively with the Owner, clients, and crew members to provide updates on project progress. Maintain accurate records of daily work activities, including labor hours, materials used, and project status, and report to the Owner. Report any issues, delays, or concerns to the Owner promptly.

Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent; additional certifications in construction or asphalt paving preferred. Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in asphalt paving, with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory or foreman role. Strong knowledge of asphalt paving techniques, materials, and equipment operation. Valid drivers license; CDL preferred but not required. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, site plans, and project specifications. Proficient in operating asphalt-related equipment (e.g., pavers, rollers, skid steers). Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to manage crews and interact with clients and the Owner. Physically fit and able to perform demanding tasks in various weather conditions. Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and industry regulations.

Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physically demanding tasks, including standing, bending, and kneeling for extended periods. Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain. Ability to operate heavy machinery and tools safely and efficiently.

Work Environment: Primarily outdoor work at construction sites in DeLand, FL, with exposure to dust, fumes, and loud noise. May require occasional evening, weekend, or overtime work to meet project deadlines. Travel to various job sites within the DeLand, FL area may be required.
