Senior Electrical Design Engineer
at its
Pittsburgh, PA
location. This position will prepare designs for inductors and other magnetic devices for customers and develop and maintain the tools and reference information necessary for preparing and presenting accurate designs rapidly.
Spang Engineered Solutions designs and manufactures custom inductive components for an array of industries including renewable energy, solar, medical, aerospace, automotive, and military. Our manufacturing locations include Pittsburgh, PA, Phoenix AZ, McKinney, TX in the U.S.A., and Xiamen, China.
Primary responsibilities will include:
Respond quickly to customer inquiries for design support. Discern the most appropriate approach, which may be a full design, a preliminary design, follow-up questions, or divert elsewhere. Maintain and improve inductor design software and develop new design software as needed, including research of available tools. Prepare internal RFQs. Prepare, review, and mark up part prints. Support production teams in China and the US by answering questions and anticipating questions. Learn and use SES electrical test equipment. Support sourcing of materials and components with purchasing and US/China production teams. New Product Transfer - Work with engineering and manufacturing personnel to smoothly transfer new products to the factory floor. Develop procedures, checklists, and test specifications for manufacturing personnel to follow. Train manufacturing personnel on new product test procedures. Up to 25% travel required
to SES manufacturing locations or meetings with potential customers.
Qualifications include a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Physics . 5 - 10 years of experience in transformer/inductor design is required.
Candidates must have exposure to electrical component manufacturing and testing. A background in Power Distribution Systems, Control Systems, Failure Analysis, Electrical Product Design, or NEC is desirable.
