Under the guidance of experienced supervisors and engineering managers, Engineers at DPW perform a broad range of duties related to the planning, design, and review of public infrastructure. From roads and bridges to flood control systems and traffic safety enhancements, you'll be directly involved in work that shapes our region.

Engineer I/II/III

is a flexibly staffed series. Placement is based on qualifications and experience, with clear promotional opportunities as your career progresses. Key Responsibilities May Include: Designing roads, bridges, storm drains, debris basins, channels, landfills, and other public infrastructure Preparing plans, specifications, and cost estimates for construction projects Conducting engineering analysis using CAD and design software Performing traffic studies, modeling, and signal design Reviewing development plans and analyzing impacts on County infrastructure Coordinating with public agencies, private developers, and internal departments Preparing technical reports, documentation, and permit applications Serving as assistant resident engineer or project inspector as needed Guiding the work of engineering technicians and junior staff INITIAL APPOINTMENT/ADVANCEMENT Employment within the County offers Engineers excellent opportunities for advancement within the series as well as advancement into leadership roles. Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field,

Certification/License Engineer I No experience is required. No certification or license is required. Engineer II One (1) year

of professional experience working as a civil engineer or a closely related field of engineering.

Possession of

Engineer-in-Training

(EIT) -OR-

Fundamentals of Engineering Exam

(FE) certification. Engineer III Two (2) years

of professional experience working as a civil engineer or a closely related field of engineering.

Possession of

Professional Engineer

(PE) license in Civil Engineering with the State of California Department of Consumer Affairs. EDUCATION REQUIREMENT OPTION 2:

Forty-Five semester units

(68 quarter units) in Civil Engineering or a closely related field, of which 35 units must be

upper division,
