Bacteriology Research Scientist

to support members at Ft. Detrick, Maryland. This position is contingent upon contract award. Incumbents are encouraged to apply! The salary range ( or hiring range ) for this exempt position is

$74,000-$82,000 . The above salary range is an estimate of potential compensation at posting. We offer benefits including holidays, paid time off, health, dental, vision insurance, life and disability insurance, tuition reimbursement, and 401K with match. The position remains open until filled or withdrawn. Responsibilities: Conduct and assist in basic and applied research on bacterial threats supporting infectious disease programs. Tasks include planning studies, bacterial assays, animal procedures, data analysis, manuscript development, and lab maintenance. Require a Ph.D. or D.V.M. with two years’ research experience, or an M.S. with 7 years’ relevant research in bacteriology or related fields. Experience with high containment (BSL-3, ABSL-3), regulatory compliance, and working in BSL-3 labs is preferred. Assist in planning and executing in vitro studies using organoids/organ-on-a-chip systems to model infectious diseases like plague, tularemia, and anthrax, under BSL-2/3 conditions. Perform animal manipulations, including observations, injections, blood draws, and euthanasia on laboratory animals, including non-human primates. Draft reports, protocols, and manuscripts; maintain GLP compliance; review study data; and present research findings. Perform in vitro bacterial assays, manage co-infection in vivo studies, and maintain lab safety and record-keeping standards. Travel may be required for conferences or collaborations.
