Bacteriology Research Scientist
to support the team at Ft. Detrick, Maryland. This position is contingent upon contract award. Incumbents are encouraged to apply! The salary range for this exempt position is
$74,000-$82,000 . This range reflects the company's estimate at the time of posting. We also offer benefits including holidays, paid time off, health/dental/vision insurance, life and disability insurance, tuition reimbursement, and a 401K with company match. The posting remains open until filled. Responsibilities:
Conduct and assist in basic and applied research on bacterial threats, including planning, executing, and analyzing scientific studies, performing bacterial assays, animal procedures, and manuscript development. Design, execute, and analyze complex studies involving bacterial pathogenesis and development of medical countermeasures against diseases such as plague, tularemia, melioidosis, glanders, anthrax, and Q-fever, under BSL-2 and BSL-3 conditions. Perform animal manipulations including observations, injections, blood draws, and euthanasia on laboratory animals, including non-human primates, under ABSL-2 and ABSL-3 conditions. Analyze and draft reports on clinical disease readouts in non-human primates and prepare study and animal protocols, as well as peer-reviewed manuscripts. Maintain compliance with GLP regulations and review study data and paperwork. Perform in vitro assays supporting research on bacteria such as Francisella tularensis, Yersinia pestis, Bacillus anthracis, Coxiella burnetii, Burkholderia pseudomallei, and Burkholderia mallei. Manage co-infection in vivo studies, laboratory maintenance, and accountability of biological substances. Review literature, present research findings at scientific conferences, and provide monthly reports. Maintain necessary certifications (CS-PRP and BPRP) as per contractual and regulatory requirements.
