The Tulane University Department of Social, Behavioral & Population Sciences; Epidemiology, and the Mary Amelia Center for Womens Health Equity Research invite applications for a Research Scientist position. The Research Scientist will work on a National Institute of Health R01 project examining the influence of state-level economic security policies on maternal mental health. This position requires the candidate to live in proximity to a federally designated restricted data centers (e.g. Atlanta) to apply for and conduct the restricted-access data management analysis required by the project. The initial appointment is for one year with the possibility of extension. Summary
The Tulane University Department of Social, Behavioral & Population Sciences; Epidemiology, and the Mary Amelia Center for Womens Health Equity Research invite applications for a Research Scientist position. The Research Scientist will work on a National Institute of Health R01 project examining the influence of state-level economic security policies on maternal mental health. This position requires the candidate to live in proximity to a federally designated restricted data centers (e.g. Atlanta) to apply for and conduct the restricted-access data management analysis required by the project. The initial appointment is for one year with the possibility of extension.
Strong candidates will have experience working with large national population health datasets (e.g., TANF and NHIS) and conducting econometric analyses, policy evaluation and quasi-experimental designs; experience conducting legal research to identify, collect, catalog, and code policies; experience in maternal and child health related research; demonstrated organizational skills and strong attention to detail; and demonstrated ability to work with others as part of a large collaborative and multi-disciplinary team. Experience cleaning and analyzing large-scale and survey data in SAS or Stata is preferred. Research Scientists are individuals holding a Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree who play a major role in enabling research programs through collaborative and collegial interactions with faculty, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students and staff. The rank of the research scientist is a staff appointment. The classification of Research Scientist I is the entry level position in the job hierarchy.
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Terminal Degree (Ph.D./M.D./D.V.M.,etc.) Experience analyzing large-scale quantitative and multi-level data sets. Experience in maternal and child health, sexual and reproductive health, and/or social policy research
Required Education And/or Experience
Data analysis skills using Stata, R, SAS, or similar statistical software. Advanced quantitative data analysis skills including difference-in-difference modeling, thematic analysis, and longitudinal data analysis using large datasets. Manuscript writing, preparation and submission. Technical skills and competencies to conduct quantifiable, meaningful research Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills Ability to interact with individuals of diverse backgrounds at all levels internal and external to the organization Ability to work collaboratively as a positive, contributing member of a team Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously Ability to prioritize work, performing assignments with minimal supervision
Preferred Qualifications
One or more scientific publications (first-authored). Experience with community engaged research. Experience with mixed-methods research. Work experience in an academic environment. Seniority level
