Primary Purpose: Directs and manages the overall extracurricular athletics program for the district. Ensures students have opportunities to participate in athletic activities and maintains compliance with all state, UIL, and local requirements.
Qualifications: Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
Master’s degree
Valid Texas teacher certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of athletic program operations
Understanding of state and UIL policies on athletics
Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
Ability to interpret policies, procedures, and data
Budget and personnel management skills
Coordination of district functions
Experience:
Five (5) years of administrative experience preferred
Ten (10) years of secondary teaching and coaching preferred
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage the district’s athletic programs and facilities
Establish and verify eligibility requirements for sports participation
Promote good sportsmanship and student development
Use evaluative data to improve athletic programs
Oversee athletic operations such as ticket sales, officials, and facilities
Prepare and approve interscholastic game schedules
Arrange transportation, lodging, and meals for out-of-town events
Maintain athletic equipment and inventory
Enforce student behavior policies related to athletics
Communicate with parents, students, and staff
Implement legal and district policies on athletics
Manage UIL regional contests and events
Maintain reports and records
Develop and oversee the athletic budget
Review and update job descriptions
Supervise and evaluate athletic staff
Develop training and improvement plans for staff
Promote the district’s athletic mission and community involvement
Support booster clubs and other activities
Evaluate campus coordinators
Serve as district CPR trainer
Inspect and schedule maintenance of athletic facilities
Manage campus cheer programs
Oversee WFISD Sports Hall of Fame development
Perform other duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise and evaluate assigned staff performance.
Working Conditions: Mental, Physical, and Environmental Demands:
Maintain emotional control under stress
Frequent travel within district and statewide
Occasional long and irregular hours
