Job Description:
The Sandblast / Painter will help prep materials for paint process, move materials- including loading and unloading both shops, troubleshooting run issues, and moving pallets of materials.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Shovels or pours abrasives such as sand, grit, or shot of specified grade into machine
Adjusts valves on equipment to regulate pressure and composition of abrasive mixture flowing through nozzle
Starts equipment that directs blast or flow of abrasive-laden compressed air, over surface of parts
Directs nozzle over surface of large parts until prescribed areas are thoroughly abraded to specification
Clean grease and dirt from products and remove all welding berries before painting.
Apply masking tape, paper or other media over parts and areas that are not coated.
Fills cavities and dents with putty or equivalent and sands accordingly, to attain smooth surfaces.
Selects mixes liquid coating to produce desired color or consistency.
Pours liquid into spray container and connects fun to air hose.
Turns sprayer valves and nozzle to regulate width and pressure of spray.
Pulls trigger and directs spray onto work surface to apply prime or finish coat.
Assist in other shop areas as needed
Transport completed projects via forklift to all areas of the shop
Maintain housekeeping in the work area. Ensure shop and yard are cleaned up, tools and equipment are put away, trash cans are emptied, etc.
Work in a team environment in the shop and yard
Demonstrates sound judgment with the ability to make decisions and corrections when problems are identified or detected
Ensure work and materials used follow manufactures specifications
Read and interpret schematics for assembly, repair, or reassembly as require for various forms of rotating equipment.
Adheres to all policies and procedures
Practices safe work habits to ensure an injury free environment
Must be available for afterhours and on-call shifts
Any job duties as assigned by supervisor or manager
Job Qualifications:
Minimum 1 year experience of sand or shot blasting in a metals production operation
Must be skilled and proficient in setting and operating sandblasting equipment
Must understand the process and its requirements, with a knowledge of how the blasting material abrades surfaces to remove adhering scale, sand, paint, grease, tar, rust, and dirt to meet the specified finish for final coating
Hands on skills assessment may be required based on qualifications
May be required to maintain fit test certification
Essential Physical and Mental Functions:
Lifting: up to 50 pounds
Lift and carry: up to 50 pounds for 100 feet
Adjusting or moving objects up to 50 pound in all directions
Bending, stooping, walking, and climbing stairs
Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps
Remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods
Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another
Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers
Operating machinery and/or power tools
Operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment
Ability to wear a respirator
Assessing the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned
Required physical ability if mandated by customer or regulatory requirements
Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits employee to communicate effectively
Sufficient vision or other powers of observation, with or without reasonable accommodations, which permits employee to investigations.
Sufficient manual dexterity with or without reasonable accommodation, which permit the employee to perform routine office duties.
Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, with or without reasonable accommodations to perform office duties and travel when necessary, to off-site locations.
Sufficient personal mobility to maneuver within a refinery or plant environment to include the ability to gain access to elevated platforms via ladders and stairwells.
Ability to maintain focus and multitask effectively.
Excellent communication skills.
