Tool & Die Technician - Tool Maker Position Overview The Tool & Die Technician - Tool Maker plays a key role in precision machining, tool fabrication, modification, and maintenance. Working in a collaborative manufacturing environment, this position is responsible for operating CNC mills, lathes, grinders, and other machining equipment while ensuring compliance with quality standards and production timelines. Additional responsibilities include troubleshooting tooling issues, assisting in training, and optimizing machining processes.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities Tool Fabrication & Maintenance
Operate CNC mills, lathes, grinders, cutter grinders, drill presses, band saws, and other machining tools.
Fabricate, modify, and repair tools and mechanical components to meet high-quality standards.
Conduct thorough inspections to ensure proper tool rebuilds and reduce development costs for new tools.
Process Improvement & Collaboration
Work closely with team members to enhance machining practices and develop innovative solutions.
Assist in training other tooling team members, ensuring proficiency in precision tools and measurement instruments such as micrometers, dial indicators, and gauge blocks.
Troubleshoot production issues, analyze machining challenges, and implement solutions for workflow improvement.
Maintain compliance with ISO quality standards and company work instructions.
Operational Support
Provide machine shop assistance across various departments to meet production needs.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, adhering to all safety regulations.
Training & Development
Participate in ongoing technical training, including ISO 9000 certification, to enhance skills and knowledge.
Stay informed on evolving machining techniques to continuously improve productivity and precision.
Qualifications Education & Experience
Diploma in Machine Tool or a related field with
5 years
of experience in tool fabrication, maintenance, or machine shop operations. OR
MATC with
1+ year
of experience in tool fabrication, maintenance, or machine shop operations.
Technical Expertise
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings accurately.
Expertise in operating and maintaining CNC mills, lathes, grinders, and other precision machining tools.
Proficiency in using measurement tools such as micrometers, gauge blocks, and dial indicators for precision machining.
Strong understanding of shop mathematics and its application in tooling fabrication.
Ability to train others in the effective use of machining equipment and hand tools.
Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.
Desired Skills
Strong troubleshooting abilities in tool and die fabrication.
Ability to work independently while collaborating with a production team.
Self-motivated, with a proactive approach to productivity and efficiency.
