Job Description
Purpose/Description
The Public Service Maintenance Worker B- End will maintain highways, municipal and rural roads and rights-of-way. Duties include patching broken or eroded pavement, repairing guard rails, highway markers, and snow removal. May also mow or clear brush from a long road or plow snow from roadway.
Responsibilities
Required Knowledge Public Safety and Security Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions. English Language Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar. Building and Construction Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of structures such as highways and roads. Required Tasks
Major Job Duties: Snow and ice operation - driving vehicles and equipment in the application and removal of snow and ice - including moving snow and materials, and maintaining equipment. Concrete and rough masonry work and asphalt placement. Keep field time records and reports. Flag motorists to warn them of obstacles or repair work ahead. Set out signs and cones around work areas to divert traffic. Perform preventative maintenance and cleaning on vehicles and equipment. Drive "B" endorsement class vehicles to sweep debris from paved surfaces, mow grass and weeds, remove snow and ice, and spread salt and sand. Haul and spread sand, gravel, and clay to fill washouts and repair road shoulders. Dump, spread, shovel, and tamp asphalt, to repair joints and patch broken pavement. Clean and clear debris from culverts, catch basins, drop inlets, ditches and other drain structures. Perform other duties: Erect, install, or repair guardrails, road shoulders, berms, highway markers, warning signals, and highway lighting using hand tools and power tools. Inspect, clean, and repair drainage systems, bridges, tunnels, and other structures. Perform a wide variety of duties when not operating equipment. Other related duties and tasks as assigned. Qualifications
Educational Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent. Moderate-term on-the-job training. CDL License with a Class "B" and airbrake endorsement Safe and acceptable driving record - No more than 7 points on driving record. Other Employment Requirements: CDL License and a Class "A and N" Endorsement within six (6) months of hire* (Management reserves the right to extend time frame.) DOT medical credentials as required by the State of Michigan for CDL holders.
