Overview:
The Commodity Buyer will provide leadership for strategic sourcing, business continuity through the entire life cycle of the product, and supplier risk management. This role will be responsible for ensuring capacity, supplier financial health, contract management, commercial negotiations, cost/spend management, and resource management decisions.

Responsibilities (Strategic): Research market trends to determine the best time to purchase items (Metals and Plastics) Research market trends to evaluate pricing impacts according to indexes (Metals and Plastics) Investigate potential new suppliers while vetting them for compliance to Purchasing Req's Identify preferred vendors and communicating the supply strategy to the organization Assess vendors and their capabilities with in-person visits, interviews and analysis to evaluate their cost competitiveness and quality Establish, manage and develop a capable supply base for commodity requirements Responsibilities (Analytic):
Comparing price quotations and choosing the most cost-efficient option Using a total cost approach when comparing pricing/quotes Understand and review cost breakdowns from suppliers Understand and provide details for the component full Supply Chain or Value Stream Map Analyze Supply Base to understand critical data (Spend, PN's, etc.) Responsibilities (Tactical):
Negotiate prices with vendors to obtain the best price for products or services (incl. Tooling) Coordinate with other departments to ensure sourcing's meet the company's requirements Annual pricing negotiations to ensure best pricing Ensure communication of any potential supply issues or risks Compile data relating to supplier performance to enable evaluation Support the plant to resolve price, quality, delivery or invoice issues Required Experience & Knowledge
Bachelor's degree in a related field (Supply Chain or Engineering preferred) 8+ years of experience within Purchasing in Automotive Knowledge of one or more of the following commodities: PCBA's, Motors, Stampings, Plastic Parts, Turnings, and Powdered Metals Knowledge of Raw Materials: Resin, Steel, Aluminum, Copper Commercial and financial awareness with a full understanding of how failure affects production, manufacturing, and the customer fulfillment process Ensure compliance to company guidelines, purchasing policies and procedures during supplier negotiations and contracts award process Knowledge of MFG Pro (QAD) or similar enterprise software (SAP, etc.) Required Skills and Abilities
Attention to detail and accuracy Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication (oral & written) skills Technical Ability to understand drawings and manufacturing processes Advanced Word, PowerPoint and Excel skills Able to build and maintain effective and productive relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, and suppliers Must be able to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with the ability to work cross-functionally and manage time effectively Willingness to collaborate with other departments using teamwork Ensure that a professional and consistent approach is taken with all suppliers Adhere to any health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of self, staff and visitors
