Perform optimal scans using correct technical factors, shielding, and protocols based on patient diagnosis, history, and other relevant clinical information. Use correct technical factors in accordance with the American College of Radiology to minimize radiation exposure while obtaining a diagnostic scan. Perform CT angiography, 3D, MIPs, VR, Vessel Analysis, and MPRs, and post-process computer data to enhance exams for radiologist interpretation using appropriate reconstruction software. Follow correct CT Department Technologist workflow including selecting the correct scan room, identifying and documenting two forms of identification for each patient, acquiring history, verifying orders, and scanning patients. Send images to PACS, scan all paperwork and data sheets, complete the case in the electronic system, address quality assurance issues, charge for contrast media and supplies. Verify that all images, series, and data sheets have been sent to PACS, ensuring the number of images is correct. Verify exams with images and archive images on the scanner. Operate support equipment for CT such as independent workstations, pressure injectors, PACS, and electronic health record systems. Initiate IV for administration of contrast media for CT in accordance with departmental policy and utilizing standard precautions. Prepare patients for exams by explaining the procedures and encouraging any questions that patients may have. Transport patients to and from departments when necessary and assist in transferring patients on and off the CT table. Continuously monitor patient conditions during CT procedures. Work with radiologists in tailoring protocols to meet patient exam requirements. Refer difficult complaints or sensitive issues to department management. Be accountable for documentation of and charging for supplies used during the performance of exams or procedures. Document confidential patient history to ensure appropriateness of the exam and contrast media. Document patient charge data, modifying and initiating charges as procedure modifications are made per the radiologist or ordering physician. Document any allergic reactions, IV extravasations, or unusual occurrences. Initiate incident reports regarding staff or patient situations. Maintain license and continuing education. Administer contrast media after proper patient screening. Ensure the proper exam is conducted for each patient. Consult providers as needed.
