Managing Consultant Air Quality
to provide technical expertise, project and team management, and business development support for our Air Quality Service Area in
Walnut Creek, Sacramento, or Denver . This is an excellent opportunity for a senior professional to manage and contribute technically to challenging air quality compliance assurance, permitting, climate change, and related compliance projects for oil & gas, chemical, energy, technology, and industrial clients in California, throughout the US, and potentially internationally. The successful candidate will also network with ERM's national air quality technical team to share best practices and consulting opportunities, building a rewarding career path with a global environmental leader.
ERM’s Air Quality & Climate Change technical community pursues and wins highly innovative engagements for the most interesting clients, providing the full breadth of air quality and climate change services. With annual global sales exceeding $50 million, ERM’s Air Quality & Climate Change service area is one of the largest among industry peers and is growing rapidly. In North America alone, ERM has more than 300 dedicated professionals assisting clients with diverse projects, from developing responses to emerging Low Carbon Fuel Standards to leading complex capital projects through the NSR permitting process.
Responsibilities
Manage strategic air permits and compliance assurance programs for industrial clients with complex technical/regulatory issues. Develop strong client relationships to understand processes and develop permitting and compliance strategies that maximize operational flexibility, ensuring scope, budget, schedule, and quality expectations are met.
Serve as a technical resource on air quality compliance and permitting programs, including analyses of industrial operations, permit applications under NSR, PSD, Title V, and state regulations, and NESHAP MACT compliance.
Engage with local regulators to oversee permit review and issuance processes.
Build and maintain client relationships to generate repeat business and grow ERM’s presence in Northern California.
Prepare technical proposals and participate in business development activities with existing and new clients.
Leverage existing relationships to expand ERM’s market share in regional air quality, climate change, and related sectors through excellent technical delivery and business development efforts.
Effectively lead project teams across multiple ERM offices, delegate tasks appropriately, and mentor junior staff.
Requirements
BS or MS in chemical, environmental, or mechanical engineering, or a related field.
At least 5 years of experience in air quality compliance and permitting, including managing Clean Air Act programs such as Title V, NSR, and MACT.
Proven ability to manage multiple projects and build strong client relationships leading to repeat business.
Experience in refinery, chemical, and technology sectors preferred.
Knowledge of AERMOD, GIS, health risk assessments, permitting, ambient monitoring, emissions sampling, CEQA, or related regulatory programs is a plus.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills, with experience in technical report writing.
