This position offers additional compensation in the form of short-term incentives (i.e., bonus, incentives, and/or commission). The
Special Assets Manager
is a strategic leader responsible for the design and implementation of special assets management at First Mid. This role will oversee the special assets policy, procedures, regulatory compliance, and controls; including the development and implementation of recovery strategies for problem loans through negotiated modifications, forbearances, managed litigation, and collateral liquidation. The Special Assets Manager leads a team of professionals, promoting a risk-aware culture that balances risk and reward, ensuring ethical and fair business conduct. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Identify and minimize potential losses and maximize recoveries on all loan portfolios through analysis, collection activities, and developing/negotiating/executing workout action plans. Manage workout/collections portfolio reviews and recommend approvals where necessary. Oversee determination and reporting of risk classifications, reserves, and charge-offs. Participate in the Loan Administration Committee. Collaborate with credit professionals to mitigate problem assets. Develop and monitor risk management strategies and programs. Prepare reports and lead the monthly Special Assets Committee meetings. Work strategically with business leaders to balance needs and risks. Coordinate legal counsel on litigation matters. Oversee OREO and note sales to maximize recovery and minimize costs. Manage a team of special asset professionals, including recruitment, performance, and development. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Education:
Bachelors degree preferred, but not required. Experience: 5+ years in commercial lending, workout, or relevant experience. 3-5 years of management experience. Knowledge of lending, foreclosure, and judgment laws. Skilled in commercial lending workout across various product/asset types. Experience managing remote teams and understanding regulatory requirements.
Skills: Ability to understand the company's products and services comprehensively. Strong analytical skills for loan analysis and market trend evaluation. Excellent interpersonal skills for professional interactions. Up-to-date knowledge of internal policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations. Quarterly travel required, with occasional monthly travel based on business needs.
