About the Role:
The Union Janitor at our Detroit location plays a critical role in maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment within the facility. This position ensures that all designated areas, including production floors, offices, restrooms, and common spaces, meet high standards of cleanliness and hygiene. The janitor contributes to the overall operational efficiency by preventing hazards related to cleanliness and by supporting a healthy workplace for all employees. Working as part of a unionized team, the janitor adheres to established protocols and collaborates with supervisors and colleagues to address cleaning needs promptly. Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods. Basic knowledge of cleaning chemicals and supplies, with an understanding of proper handling and safety procedures. Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, or weekends as needed. Eligibility to work in a unionized environment and comply with union rules and regulations. Preferred Qualifications:
Previous janitorial or custodial experience in an industrial or manufacturing setting. Familiarity with occupational health and safety standards related to cleaning and maintenance. Perform routine cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and trash removal across all assigned areas. Sanitize restrooms, break rooms, and other communal spaces to ensure compliance with health and safety standards. Operate cleaning equipment and machinery safely and efficiently, including floor scrubbers and buffers. Monitor and replenish cleaning supplies and report any maintenance or repair needs to the appropriate personnel. Follow union guidelines and safety protocols to maintain a secure working environment and participate in team meetings and training sessions as required.
