The Associate Instructional Designer is responsible for assessing course issues and implementing solutions that align with Excelsior University’s academic standards and best practices for adult learning. Working closely with instructional designers, technologists, media developers, and other team members, the Associate Instructional Designer ensures course content is pedagogically sound, accessible, and aligned with university standards. The ideal candidate has knowledge of instructional design principles, online learning technologies, and assessment strategies, playing a key role in maintaining course quality and supporting an exceptional student learning experience. This position is based at the university’s Albany, NY home office, with options for remote work. Remote employees will have occasional travel for meetings and professional development and must be available during work hours (8:30 am – 5:00 pm Eastern). The university provides necessary equipment, and employees must have a suitable workspace for virtual meetings. Duties and Responsibilities:

Collaborate with the Instructional Design and Development team on course maintenance. Apply instructional design principles to address critical course issues. Analyze course issues and implement effective instructional strategies, tools, and assessments. Ensure course content aligns with design standards, accessibility, and best practices. Review and refine course content for clarity, coherence, and alignment with learning objectives. Work with other designers to improve course development methodologies. Qualifications:

To perform this role successfully, candidates must meet the following requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or related field. Knowledge of instructional design models (e.g., Backward Design, Bloom’s Taxonomy). Relationship-building skills. Familiarity with online learning and adult education best practices. Strong communication and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Instructional Design or related field. 1+ year experience designing online courses for higher education. Experience developing courses for adult learners. Experience in a centralized course development environment. Proficiency in accessibility standards and universal design for learning. Experience using learner analytics for course improvement. The salary range for this position is $55,000 – $60,000, reflecting the university’s good faith estimate at posting. Application Information
