Position Summary We are seeking ahighly motivated laboratory aide who will participate in biological assays performed in the laboratory that will analyzeprotein and mRNA levels from tissue samples collected from previously performedexperiments. The candidate will work in the lab under general supervision toperform total protein content, protein levels of keys targets, RNA extraction,and quantitative PCR. We are also looking for an individual who has experienceanalyzing mouse behavior in the 'Open Field Chamber' and the 'Elevated PlusMaze'. The research focuses on the effects of prenatal alcohol exposure inmouse offspring and neuroimmune interactions with the hypothalamic pituitaryadrenal axis function. The position requires the collection,compilation and statistical analyses of data, and a excellent organizationalskills. Research is conducted in a neuroscience research laboratory on mousebehavior, and the researcher will prepare data, samples, and/or specimens. See the Position Description for additional information.
Conditions of Employment Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check. Must be at least 18 years of age at date of hire. Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement. Minimum Qualifications
Successful completion of junior or senior year of high school; no previous experience required.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in a field related to biology and/or biochemistry Experience in pipetting Basic understanding of scientific methodology Interest in learning or the ability to run and troubleshoot protein assays Interest in learning laboratory management Available to work on Saturdays and Sundays as needed Familiarity to process biochemical data using scientific software (e.g., Word, Powerpoint, Prism, SPSS & Excel) Comfort working with miceand careful evaluation of mouse behaviors
