Position Overview:

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) at Gwinnett Pulmonary & Sleep plays a critical role in supporting the clinical team by providing high-quality patient care and assisting with various medical tasks. The CMA is responsible for preparing patients for exams, assisting physicians during procedures, and performing a variety of clinical and administrative duties. This role requires strong clinical skills, excellent communication, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. This position requires daily travel to a different office location within Gwinnett County.

Key Responsibilities: Patient Care and Preparation: Greet and prepare patients for examinations, procedures, and treatments, ensuring they are comfortable and informed about the process. Obtain and record patient vital signs, medical history, and any relevant information in the electronic medical records (EMR) system. Assist patients with mobility issues, ensuring their safety and comfort during their visit.

Clinical Assistance: Assist physicians and nurse practitioners during examinations, procedures, and treatments, providing necessary tools and equipment as needed. Perform basic laboratory tests, such as blood draws, urine tests, and throat swabs, and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis. Administer medications and injections as directed by the physician or nurse practitioner, following all safety protocols and guidelines.

Patient Education: Provide patients with instructions and education on their care, treatment plans, medications, and follow-up procedures. Answer patient questions and address concerns, ensuring they understand their health conditions and treatment options. Assist in the development and distribution of educational materials for patients.

Administrative Support: Schedule patient appointments, coordinate follow-up visits, and manage patient flow to ensure efficient use of clinical resources. Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, ensuring all documentation is completed promptly and complies with legal and regulatory requirements. Assist with insurance verification, billing inquiries, and other administrative tasks as needed.

Equipment and Supply Management: Ensure that all medical equipment is properly sterilized, maintained, and ready for use. Manage inventory of medical supplies, placing orders and stocking examination rooms as needed. Assist with the maintenance and calibration of clinical equipment, ensuring it is functioning correctly.

Compliance and Quality Assurance: Ensure compliance with all healthcare regulations, including HIPAA, OSHA, and infection control protocols. Participate in quality assurance activities, such as chart audits and procedure reviews, to ensure the highest standards of patient care. Report any safety concerns, incidents, or potential issues to the appropriate personnel in a timely manner.

Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care to patients. Participate in team meetings and contribute to the development of patient care plans. Provide support to other clinical staff as needed, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.

Required Qualifications: Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) from an accredited program. High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree in a related field preferred. A minimum of 1-3 years of experience in a clinical setting, preferably in a specialty practice. Strong understanding of medical terminology, clinical procedures, and patient care protocols. Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) systems and healthcare technology. Current CPR certification. Key Competencies:
