JOB SUMMARY AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS JOB SUMMARY

This position performs intermediate clerical and technical work in the receiving, processing, and issuing of Planning and Development permits in accordance with City ordinances and codes; does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Building Official.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction. Repetitive Motion: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers. Manual Dexterity: Picking, pinching, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling. Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm. Vocal Communication: Required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing: Required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Visual Acuity: Required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities. WORK ENVIRONMENT

The worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Receives, processes, and issues a variety of Planning and Development permits and maintains records and files associated with Planning and Development permits. Serves as receptionist, answers telephone, and routes calls to appropriate staff. Receives and processes applications and assures completeness of submittal documents. Types and files permits, prepares correspondence, and public notices for distribution. Provides administrative support to Planning and Development staff. Maintains a variety of insurance and license files. Provides permit activity and inspection related information upon request. Operates personal computer, including word processing, spreadsheets, and permitting software. Performs related tasks as required. OTHER INFORMATION

QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience:

A high school diploma or equivalent supplemented by courses in personal computers, business administration, accounting, or bookkeeping and three years of experience in general office work involving contact with the public.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of permit processing procedures and methods. Knowledge of building trades methods, terminology, and documentation. Knowledge of the application and interpretation of municipal codes, ordinances, and resolutions affecting the permitting and inspection functions. Ability to review and understand site plans, surveys, and other drawings related to development. Ability to operate standard office, personal computer, and related equipment. Ability to gain a working knowledge of general building and zoning requirements including reading blueprints and learning the architectural and engineering scales. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective and positive working relationships with associates and the public. For external candidates, the starting salary for this position is between $19.35 and $24.91 per hour, depending on qualifications. For internal candidates, the starting salary will be based on A.04 and A.05 of the City's Personnel Policies and Procedures. Is this acceptable to you?
