Loudoun County Department of Family Services seeks a dedicated, professional candidate for its Adult and Aging Intake Specialist role. The successful candidate will join the Adult and Aging unit and the diverse department that envisions better health, safety, and well-being for all. The Department supports individuals and families in the community to live their best lives while advocating for those most vulnerable and respecting their right to self-determination.
Job Summary
The Adult and Aging Intake Specialist will serve as the first point of contact to the Adult and Aging Unit. This position provides high-quality customer service, receiving requests for service for older adults or adults with disabilities, and screening reports of adult abuse, neglect and exploitation. Responsibilities include:
Receive walk-in, telephone and appointment requests for assistance connecting to Adult and Aging program services. Assess client's need, identify appropriate program services, complete intake assessment and case assignment process. Provide courteous and timely customer service. Provide information and referrals to outside services when appropriate. Screen APS calls to include determining report validity and response time. Monitor and answer calls from both the APS and Adult Services phone systems. Coordinate with AAU staff, APS-CPS hotline team and other partners to ensure timely response to APS reports and requests for AAU services. Complete unit reports and statistics Document all calls and correspondences timely within the appropriate system and mandated timeframes. Ensure accurate and timely data entry into required systems. Assists and trains coworkers. (Provides technical guidance; explains program policies and procedures) Maintains case records. Completes special projects as assigned. May perform other essential job functions specific to the position and department assignment. Illustrative Job Tasks: Conduct and complete in-depth client assessments and APS investigations with minimal oversight Develop individualized service plans for assigned cases and clinical case management, oversight, and therapeutic interventions to assist clients in achieving or maintaining the highest level of independence possible Serves as client advocate, makes referrals to appropriate providers, and retrieves resources as appropriate/as needed Collaborates with community resources and partners to build support for program goals Identifies opportunities for community resources to provide assistance and collaborates with the medical community, law enforcement, federal law enforcement, school systems, and other professionals in the community to ensure the safety of older adults Provides consultation and guidance to other professionals, referral agencies, and the public regarding program goals, requirements, and policies and procedures Serves on COOP team; responds to community crises Assists with needs assessments and development and implementation of innovative programs and services Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a Human Services field; OR, a Bachelor's degree in any field with a minimum of two (2) years of directly related experience in a human services area. Preferred: Bi-lingual skills in Spanish and English preferred. Job Contingencies and Special Requirements
Pass pre-employment background checks to include criminal, credit, CPS/APS, and DMV. Valid driver's license and good driving record (driving records may be reviewed annually for continued qualification). Hold or obtain certifications such as CPR if required for assigned position. Obtain specific training such as CPS/Foster Care/APS state training as required or desired for assigned area, Special Requirements:
Successful candidates must be available to perform work during regular business hours and on call as required. This position is considered essential personnel and will require report to work during times designated countywide as approved for unscheduled leave regardless of the emergency (e.g., weather, transportation, disaster). Candidate may also be required to work and may be assigned to an alternate worksite(s) within the county to carry out duties that support operational needs.

At times, the Department of Family Services staff must respond to community and or emergency needs caused by inclement weather, natural or human-made disasters, etc. Therefore, in these very rare instances, all DFS staff must be available to work beyond the normal workday to include nights, weekends, and holidays, as required to perform functions of the position and/or situation. In addition, you may be required to work at an alternative worksite(s) within the County to perform duties that support the operational needs of the department.
