The City of Sacramento's Department of Utilities (DOU), Environmental and Regulatory Compliance Section is looking for one Student Assistant to assist professional city staff. The Student Assistant, under close supervision and guidance, will assist with the implementation of the City's Stormwater Quality Improvement Program. The student assistant may also be assigned to support various water quality regulatory and environmental programs, including drinking water quality protection, construction stormwater inspection program, municipal pollution prevention programs, new development program, and other water quality regulatory programs as required.

This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. This means that either University Enterprises, Inc. or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause.
Depending on the type of position you are applying for, a pre-employment background check consisting of one or more of the following may be conducted: employment history, professional references, criminal check: educational verification (degree, license, or official transcript) or DMV clearance. Applicants will be required to pass required pre-employment checks to the satisfaction of University Enterprises, Inc. (UEI) and the hiring Agency or Department.
UEI does not allow students to hold more than one UEI Job at a time, or work in more than one account per pay period. UEI employees who are considering leaving their current UEI Student assistant position for a different UEI student assistant position should inform their supervisor in writing and provide at least a week's notice.
UEI is not a multi-state employer. UEI only employs candidates who live and work in the state of California. If selected for the position you must reside in California and all work must be performed in the state of California throughout the course of employment.
Prerequisites
Must be a college student attending classes during the regular term (Fall, Spring and Winter, if applicable), at one of the accredited colleges or universities on our affiliation list.

Students must be enrolled in at least: six-semester units or nine quarter units for undergraduate students; four-semester units or six quarter units for graduate students.

Work Schedule
This position allows the student to customize their work schedule to avoid conflicts with class schedules. The student will be required to work a minimum of 12 hours per work week with a maximum of 20 hours during the academic year.
During school breaks, students may choose to work up to 40 hours per work week. Typical work week hours are Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Additional Work Schedule
Student Assistant and Graduate Assistant employees generally work up to 24 hours per workweek (Sunday - Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per workweek during breaks; (winter, spring, and summer).
Compensation
$17.50 to $22.00 per hour Minimum Qualifications

Working knowledge of software such as Microsoft (MS) Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat Professional. Able to follow verbal and written directions and take constructive feedback. Demonstrate strong writing, speaking and communication skills. Able to plan, organize, and prioritize work. Maintain good work habits such as punctuality, neatness, and dependability. Duties and Responsibilities
Provide field support including field assessments, inspections, water quality sampling, and storm drain marking. Conduct research; data tracking, input, review, and evaluation; and preparation of PowerPoint presentations. Prepare letters, memos, information summaries and other written documentation. Assist with development and/or maintenance of databases (Microsoft Access, Excel, etc.), including data entry. Assist with preparation of regulatory or technical reports. Reading and reviewing construction improvement plans. Assist with public outreach, creating public outreach materials, and possibly working at various community events (may include weekends). Other related tasks as needed, including scanning, copying, and deliveries.
Physical Requirements
Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers, and scanners with or without reasonable accommodation. Field work may require extensive walking. Able to walk outdoors on uneven surfaces with varying weather conditions.
Working Conditions
Typically, most of the work will be performed in an office setting, however the student may be tasked to perform outdoor field work and will be required to drive a City vehicle to the site.
