The Electric Motor Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for the E-Motors' Mechanical Design, Manufacturing, and Assembly for automotive electrification applications. This role includes the development of the Mechanical design and specification of different E-Motors for all types of Electrified Propulsions (LV/HV for MHEVs, PHEVs, and BEVs) and will provide technical guidance & direction to other E-Motor Design domains. The Engineer will also drive mechanical design assessments for purchased designs as well as standards, requirements & analysis of in-house designs. The candidate will stay abreast of new E-Motors technology including Benchmarking and Lead the Mechanical Design and Assembly activities and development. The Engineer will also participate in E-Motors technical roadmap and develop different Mechanical concepts of E-Motor Systems to meet vehicle requirements.Basic Qualifications: Masters Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or related degree fieldMinimum of 8 years of relevant experienceMinimum of 5 years of Mechanical Design and Assembly for traction E-MotorsUnderstanding of E-Motor assembly and subcomponents with experience in design of stator assembly & rotor assembly, including but not limited to laminations, cores, housing, copper wire, insulation paper, cooling rings, shafts, bearings, magnets, end rings, balance rings & position sensorsExperience in Designing, Manufacturing and Assembly of different Mechanical design topologies for traction E-Motors (e.g., Indication Machines, Surface Permanent Magnet, Interior Permanent Magnet, PM Assist, etc.)Experience with Mechanical Principles and Analysis (Finite Element Analysis, Simulation, and Modeling)Basic understanding of E-Motors' Electromagnetic, Thermal, and NVH Analysis and TestingExperience in E-Motors Design for Manufacturing and E-Motors Design for Assembly (DFMEA, PFEMA, DRBTR, DRBFM, etc.)Experience in E-Motors prototyping and productionMaterials knowledge in E-Motors subcomponents (electrical steel, magnets, housing, copper, aluminum, insulation paper, varnish, epoxy, shaft, etc)Knowledge of E-Motor design principles, operation, testing, and reliabilityKnowledge of different E-Motor technologies, IPM, IM, Axial flux, SRMKnowledge of different E-Motor Cooling technologies; Water, Oil, or HybridExpert in regards to GD&TAs appropriate, owns the test-to-learn process, data collection, and analysis of E-Motors' Mechanical Structure and Stresses results.Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to work both independently and with othersDemonstrated ability to summarize and present work to management and cross-functional teamsDemonstrated ability to drive mechanical design and execute mechanical design from concept to launchPreferred Qualifications:Ph.D. degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Equivalent Engineering from an ABET accredited universityFamiliarity with automotive product development processes and project managementKnowledgeable in use of Team Center with experience in NX in a production release environment.Experience with Design Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (DFMEA)Experience with Design Verification Plan & Report (DVP&R)Experience with Design for Six Sigma (DFSS)Familiarity with automotive product development processes and project managementSelf-starter with demonstrated problem solving abilityExcellent written and verbal communication skillsStrong leadership and interpersonal skills
